The Doylestown Area Growth Initiatives was born in 2017, is an IRS approved 501(c)(3) and a certified non-profit by the Ohio Attorney General. The Growth Initiatives Board of Directors is comprised of representatives of Chippewa Township, Chippewa Local Schools and the Village of Doylestown, plus four major civic organizations. As such, it is a communications conduit and a coordinating agency. It is primarily a community development organization. DAGI was formed when the Doylestown Area Business Association merged with the Doylestown Area Development Association following a community meeting that made new direction an imperative.
The Doylestown Area Business Association (DABA) began in 1928 as the Doylestown Businessmen’s Association. Over the years, DABA has had major impacts on our community. Many downtown improvements and business cooperative ventures were generated. Some of the more recent activities sponsored by DABA included scholarship awards, the Visit with Santa and Christmas decorations downtown and along Gates Street. And we should note that the biggest single event in Doylestown, the Rogues Hollow Festival, was initiated and continues to be sponsored by DABA and its successor, DAGI.
Doylestown Area Growth Initiatives is still getting organized, but the Board of Directors is reviewing 39 proposals presented by a citizens group of 21 volunteers. The citizens named their plan of action The Doylestown Prosperity Initiative. Vetting those 39 projects and implementing them is now the primary occupation of the seven member board and twelve member staff.
