COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS – Make downtown a destination and gathering place for families.

  • Creating a Community Recreation Center
    • To create a facility that would be utilized by both the Chippewa Schools and the community, similar to joint facilities in Wooster and Wadsworth.
  • Lamp Post Light Extension
    • To illuminate a walkway from downtown Doylestown to the new Chippewa High School, up Gates Street and extending on North Portage Street, providing a link to downtown.
  • Christmas Decorations / Lights
    • To improve the visual aesthetics of our downtown and main town entrance to attract more business from consumers.
  • Relocation of Village Electronic Message Board
    • To move the message board from the Village Square to a more appropriate area for viewing.
  • Promote and Utilize the Doylestown Library 
    • Promote and utilize the library during town special events as well as create tie-in to local business.
  • Spring Fest
    • To attract families to Doylestown to attend fun activities around Easter.
  • Trunk or Treat for Halloween Festival
    • With the closing of the middle school, this event will bring families into town during Trick or Treat to showcase downtown businesses and develop community solidarity.
  • Winter Fest
    • To capitalize on traffic flow to/from Galehouse Tree Farms benefitting the local businesses and promoting areas for future development.
  • Light Up the Hollow
    • To promote Rogues’ Hollow during the holiday season by creating a Light Up the Hollow event.
  • Food Cook-Off
    • To hold multiple food cook-off events (ribs, chili, wings, etc.) to raise money for community development projects.
  • Fasching Celebration
    • To revive a German cultural celebration to draw people to downtown Doylestown.

 

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS – Making a commitment to current and future businesses, while creating economic vitality and preservation of historical buildings.

  • Creating a Downtown Redevelopment District
    • To create a Doylestown redevelopment district that would create a fund for improvements to the downtown, including building and facade improvements.
  • Marketing the Community Reinvestment Area
    • To insure the Community Reinvestment Area (CRA) is fully known by the business community.  The CRA is the most significant business incentive program in Doylestown.
  • Northeast Ohio Four County Region Planning and Development Organization (NEFCO) – COMPLETED
    • To gain active participation with NEFCO, preferably as a dues paying member, or by actively attending their monthly meetings.
  • Main Street Doylestown
    • To create a means for Doylestown to affiliate with Main Street America, to access their experience, expertise, training and field services in revitalizing downtowns.
  • Community Signage Improvements
    • To improve signage around the community, making it easier to navigate around town.
  • New Business Development
    • Encourage and actively seek new businesses to open in Doylestown
  • Pop-Up Businesses
    • Encourage pop-up businesses during special events.  Create quarterly pop up businesses opportunities.
  • Additional Public Parking
    • To procure real estate to create greater public parking.
  • Website Development – COMPLETED
    • To create/update a website for Doylestown Area Growth Initiatives.
  • Social Media Presence – COMPLETED
    • Create a social media presence for the village, including businesses and community organizations.
  • Advertisements in Local Newspapers
    • To create ads in local newspapers prompting Doylestown in general and Village special events.
  • Advertisements on Local Network Television
    • Creates ads for local network TV channels promoting Village events, activities and businesses.
  • Cross Business Promotion
    • Encourage cross business promotion for village businesses.
  • Hire a Village Economic Development Person – COMPLETED
    • Hire an individual to represent the community at regional and local economic development functions.  This position has been filled by a volunteer.

 

GOVERNMENT/REGULATORY IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS – Enable rules, regulations and laws that will enhance community prosperity.

  • Create an Historical Zoning District
    • To create a historical zoning district for downtown Doylestown to preserve the historical buildings downtown, insure that any new buildings placed downtown are architecturally compatible with those already there and provide property value protections for downtown real estate by mandating maintenance standards.
